Received a letter regarding O2 debt & Lowell?

We buy debt from lots of different companies, including O2. If you've received a letter from us about your O2 debt, it means we've bought it from O2 and you now owe the debt to Lowell instead. Register or sign in to see your account information today.

Your questions, answered.

What is this debt for?

Account types available with O2 and the application process that you would have followed:

  • SIM + Handset contract over 18/24/24+ months
  • SIM Only contract over 30 days/18/24/24+ months
  • SIM + device contract over 18-24-months.

You may have transferred over to O2 from another provider at point of renewal, and now Lowell has bought your debt.

Terms and conditions will have been provided to you at point of application and when every device is issued.

I cancelled my contract?

Cancellation Inside the Cooling-Off Period

If services have already begun, you are required to pay for the full cost of the service(s) you have used.

Any discounts and offers are not taken in to account.

Potential charges include:

  • Charges for the service
  • Anything the customer has used which isn't covered by the charges
  • 3rd party services – online games etc

Cancellation Outside the Cooling-Off Period

You are required to give 30 days’ notice in order to cancel your contract.

If you were still within your contract when you cancelled, an ETF (Early termination fee) charge will apply. This is calculated as the total of months remaining by month plan; cost is less than 4%.

Why do I have two accounts?

O2 Refresh accounts are handled slightly differently. When you opened your account with O2, your contract was agreed in two parts. These are:

  • a ‘device plan’ which is the cost of the product such as a mobile handset or tablet,
  • an ‘airtime plan’ which is the cost of the data, text and calls.

My device was lost or stolen

Lost or Stolen device/SIM cards must be reported to O2 to allow suspension of the service and blocking of the handset.

You are liable for any charges incurred up to reporting the loss/theft.

A new SIM card can be issued from O2, but in this case you would be expected to replace the handset.

If the phone is lost or stolen, you must report this. You, the customer, are liable for handset and any charges up until O2 are informed. O2 will not replace the handset.

I transferred ownership of my device

Transfer of ownership is available with O2, but the process may vary slightly depending on the transfer reason, e.g. separation/bereavement, and the product that is being used e.g. mobile or broadband.

There are a number of requirements for transfer of ownership to be accepted:

• O2 must give consent

• Your account must be up to date

• Both the original account holder and new account holder must pass a DPA (Data Protection Act) check and speak with O2 customer services

• The new or proposed account holder MUST pass a credit check. If the credit check fails, the transfer of ownership will not take place.
