Answering Common Misconceptions about Lowell
There are lots of misconceptions about Lowell. There will be hidden charges. We’ll force you to pay the full amount immediately, and that we’re aggressive or unethical.
These are all false.
At Lowell, we don’t engage in harassment tactics. Our mission is simple - to help you take control of your Lowell debt.
Will Lowell be aggressive or not care about my situation?
Some people think that debt companies are aggressive, uncaring, and unethical.
We’re not like that. In fact, we’re the opposite.
At Lowell, we see the person behind the debt. We don’t judge; we listen. Because we know that debt can happen to anyone. Unemployment. Divorce. Illness or Injury. Bad luck. Life happens – we understand how people end up living with debt. And we know how to support people in that situation.
Helping our customers is at the heart of everything we do.
But don’t just take our word for it. Read our reviews on Trustpilot, where over 35,000 customers have shared their positive experiences.
Can I ignore letters and calls from Lowell?
We know it’s tempting to ignore your Lowell debt, but that only makes things harder in the long run.
We think it’s one of the most troubling myths about debt because, even if you think an ignored debt has disappeared, it may come back to bother you years later when you’ve long forgotten about it.
At Lowell, we’re here to help, not pressure you. We’ll work with you to put an affordable, interest-free payment plan in place - but we need your help to make it happen.
What happens if you ignore Lowell?
If you choose not to get in touch with us, we may instruct our Solicitors to take legal action on our behalf.
Failing to engage with our Solicitors can then result in them issuing a County Court Judgement (CCJ) against you, which can be particularly detrimental to your credit rating and ability to access credit in the future.
However, we’ll always try to work with you first, to help you repay your debt through a sustainable payment plan that takes your individual circumstances into consideration.

Will my debt go away if I ignore it?
A lot of people think that if they hold tight and ignore their debt it will go away, which isn’t always the case.
Under UK law, a debt can become statute barred after a period of limitation in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. This means that it can’t be enforced by a court order after six years of you acknowledging a debt or a court order being issued.
In Scotland, this is known as the ‘prescription period’, and is five years for most types debt.
Unfortunately, once a debt becomes statute barred or ‘prescribed’, its presence on your credit file can still impact your credit score and your ability to get future credit, including a mortgage.
While the debt isn't legally recoverable, non-payment of the debt could also show on your credit file for a further six years.
The best solution is to get on top of your debt. And we’re here to help with that.
Do Lowell charge interest?
We won’t add interest if you work with us to set up a repayment plan and manage your Lowell account.
Do I have to pay debt collectors fees?
Customers sometimes worry that we’ll charge extra fees on top of their debt. Well, we’d like to set the record straight – that’s not the case. If you work with us to set up an affordable payment plan, there will be no extra debt collection fees to pay. So, the Lowell debt you owe at the start is the amount you pay - with no hidden fees or surprises.
Will Lowell make me pay off my debts in one go?
